Salesforce Flow vs HubSpot Workflows: a process designer's guide
How automation differs between Salesforce Flow and HubSpot Workflows - triggers, branching, approvals, and integrations - and how to map processes for each platform.
The two automation engines
Salesforce Flow is a record-triggered, screen, and scheduled automation engine that runs on the Salesforce platform with deep access to the object model, approval processes, and Apex extensibility. HubSpot Workflows are object-centric (contacts, companies, deals, tickets, custom objects) and lean on enrollment criteria, branching actions, and built-in marketing/sales/service triggers.
Triggers and enrollment
In Salesforce, a process model usually starts from a record change, a platform event, or a user action on a screen flow. In HubSpot, you express the same idea as enrollment criteria on a workflow targeting a specific object type, with re-enrollment rules to handle ongoing changes.
Branching, approvals, and integrations
Salesforce favors explicit approval processes and decision elements; HubSpot leans on if/then branches and webhooks for handoffs. When mapping a process for either platform, the diagram should show ownership transitions, automated vs manual steps, and integration points so the gap analysis surfaces missing automation and risky manual handoffs.
